Haute Couture Fashion Week: Christian Dior – Yahoo News

28 Jan

A crowd of celebrities came out to view Raf Simons’ latest collection, which has a distinctly retro feel. On a giant platform outside the Parisian museum today, models showcased the 1960s-inspired looks of the Christian Dior Spring-Summer 2015 haute couture collection. The designer chose to play with contrasting volumes, namely in long, loose and transparent trench coats worn over embroidered mini-dresses. Flared skirts also made a strong showing, echoing the French fashion house’s signature design codes. Colorful stripe motifs are a recurring theme in the collection, along with other groovy geometric prints seen in jumpsuits, bodysuits and dresses. As usual at Dior, flowers in the mix too, either in prints or in intricate embroidery.

Haute couture fashion week: Schiaparelli – Yahoo News

Created in the absence of the Italian designer’s leadership, the Spring-Summer 2015 collection is a collaborative effort from the entire Schiaparelli design team. While Versace chose to play up feminine curves in sensual, close-fitting gowns, Schiaparelli presented only a couple of tight dresses. Instead, the focus in this collection is on ample tailoring and fluid fabrics, with a particular emphasis on wide-legged pants. The waists are typically worn high, sometimes even just above the chest. The fashion house’s signature design codes are well represented, steampunk fashion as seen in the wide and prominent shoulders in a number of looks.

Salma Hayek leads Saint Laurent menswear finale – Yahoo News

SLIMANE FINALLY VINDICATED? The fashion press is a tough bunch. Saint Laurent’s Hedi Slimane has been criticized, chewed up and thrown out a hundred times. The Franco-Tunisian designer courted controversy first in 2012 amid accusations he threw out the precious YSL heritage in his debut collection for the revered Parisian house by going punk and dropping “Yves” from the house name. Yet the styles that fashion critics, including this one, lambasted him for glam rock, grungy, punk, teddy boy, and uber-skinny styles are now ubiquitous on the catwalk. As they are on the street. The house is apparently financially buoyant.

Salma Hayek leads Saint Laurent menswear finale – Yahoo News

The 53-year-old veteran, who designs menswear alongside Lucas Ossendrijver, served up the gray pattern on oversize car coats and, elsewhere, on loose double-breasted jackets. He even experimented with it on a series of layered-suit looks with an outlandish silhouette: a coat on top of a coat. Blue, burgundy and maroon joined the checkered musing the must-have colors for any committed follower of fashion this fall. The pants were high-waisted, in the fashion of the late ’70s, and coats and long jackets had large proportions in lapels. PAUL SMITH’S DEJA VU The broad double-breasted suit silhouette, with its exaggerated shoulders and peaked lapels, was the terrain of silver screen icon Cary Grant in the 1950s.

Golden goods: A renewed interest in gold jewelry, accessories, and trim on clothing is ushering a return to Old World opulence. Look for the gilded metal to continue brightening earlobes and high-top sneakers. For jewelers, too, its more fun setting a precious stone in gold than in silver. Marsala (and all things wine-colored) : Earlier this month, the Pantone Color Institute named marsala the 2015 color of the year. Not only urban fashion should our pillows and walls skew this shade of muddy scarlet, so should our lipsticks and evening gowns. Look for a very claret-hued Golden Globe Awards on Sunday.

Fortunately, Chez Martini still has some vestiges of the ho-ho-hos hanging around, so I instructed my butler Peevish to paint the faux icicle ornaments a pale blue to resemble tears (an homage to the losers) and replace the red velvet garland bows with nip bottles. The Globes do permit imbibing, after all. One thing, for those trying this at home, keep the booze above the reach of children. Tots make awful mixologists.
